KIHEI VEGAN FOOD TRUCK SOLD, BUT STILL VEGAN
Formerly Aloha Joy, Kihei’s 100% vegan food truck has been sold. Now called Earth Aloha Eats, its menu features a variety of 100% plant-based bowls, wraps, sandwiches and tacos, as well as desserts and drinks. More information is here.
ARTISAN ICE CREAM IN PAIA OFFERS FOUR VEGAN FLAVORS
Artisan Ice Cream, 40 Baldwin Avenue, Paia, offers four flavors of vegan ice cream. More information here.
FOSTER FARMING PROGRAM LAUNCHED
The Common Ground Collective is a nonprofit organization focused on food security and new economic opportunities for the community, has launched a foster farm program. Participating landowners can receive help in harvesting produce. They can choose to either donate or sell the collected food. One local nonprofit that welcomes food donations is Maui Food Not Bombs, which provides free vegan food to those in need. Schedule a free harvest here.
MAUI VEGAN PARADISE DEBUTS AT UPCOUNTRY FARMERS MARKET
On June 15 Maui Vegan Paradise introduced wraps with macadamia pate and veggies wrapped in nori at the Upcountry Farmers Market. Soon to be added to the menu are “nice cream”, cinnabuns, burgers, sandwiches and more. A welcome addition to the Upcountry Farmers Market!

Community involvement is not for everyone, but if you want to work with kindred spirits, learn and give something back, volunteering may be for you. Here are some vegan-friendly volunteer opportunities on Maui.
MAUI CHILIS ON WHEELS SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The Chilis on Wheels - Maui team has been feeding our houseless community hand-delivered and homemade vegan meals every Thursday and Sunday in Kahului for over a year now. There is a vegan family of four who stay on Pāpalaua Beach on the west side who could use some solid meals once a week. Chilis also needs for a hot plate for a friend who moved into a home without a kitchen.
A new volunteer training will be held the first week of July. If you are interested in making food for west side family or supporting efforts in Kahului. Please email Nicole at maui@chilisonwheels.org or call her at 866-4811 if you are interested.

TWO-THIRDS OF VEGANS HAVE ANIMAL PRODUCTS IN THEIR HOMES
A British survey has found that two-thirds of vegans use animal products in their home without realizing it. Some of the culprits include plastic bags, shampoo and conditioners, medication with gelatin coatings, fabric softener, LCD screens and cleaning, body and makeup products.

THIS MONTH IN VEGAN HISTORY
July 1838: The Alcott House School is opened in a London borough by James Pierrepont Greaves, a radical educator who had adopted the 'vegetable diet' in 1817.
July 1947: In a talk given at the 11th IVU World Vegetarian Congress, vegan pioneer Donald Watson explains that the vegan believes that if they were to be true emancipator of animals, they must renounce their traditional and conceited attitude that they had the right to use them to serve their needs.
July 1988: The British government bans the practice of feeding rendered cattle products back to cattle.
July 2001: The Food Revolution, Robbins’ follow-up to Diet for a New America, is published.
August 1850: The last issue of the Vegetarian Advocate includes an article by Sylvester Graham, argues against using butter and cheese.
August 1944: Several members of the Vegetarian Society (United Kingdom) request a section of its newsletter be devoted to non-dairy vegetarianism. The request was turned down. Donald Watson, secretary of the Leicester branch, sets up a new quarterly newsletter in November 1944, The Vegan News.
August 2000: After two years of negotiations with PETA, McDonalds announces new standards to increase cage space for hens and phase out beak searing.
August 2008: The wedding of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi is entirely vegan.
