Vegan News for September 2020
It’s not easy sustaining an independent restaurant, even in the best of times. Add a pandemic, and the challenges can be overwhelming. We were heartened to learn that Maui’s second all-vegan food truck, which opened in Kihei at the end of May, Sprout Vegan Café, is going strong. Let’s support Sprout Vegan Café, as well as vegan stalwarts like a’a Roots, Maui Kombucha and Earth Aloha Eats. And don’t forget to patronize vegan-friendly establishments like Moku Roots, Choice Health Bar, and Down to Earth.
Independent farmers also need our support. The Saturday Upcountry Farmers Market reports: “The market is back to normal! Happy to announce the return of a walk-through market. No more drive-through preorders or long waits. Just wear a mask and observe social distancing.”
Hawaii imports 85% of its food. Mahi Pono is the wrong way to achieve greater food security. There’s a better alternative.
