Vegan News for November 2019

Each month, the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii presents a thought-provoking and timely lecture, usually on the second Thursday at 7 pm at the Cameron Center in Wailuku.  If you can’t attend a lecture or just want to learn more, each speaker is also scheduled to appear on Off the Record, a KAKU radio show (88.5) at 11 am same day. This show is re-run the following Friday at 2 pm and is also live streamed on Facebook. (In the Facebook search box, type “88.5” and the name of the speaker you want to hear.) Also, videos of the talks, which are presented on Oahu prior to each Maui presentation, are online here.

Eat vegan, help animals: Kihei’s 100% plant-based food truck, Earth Aloha Eats, will donate 10% of this month’s sales to Leilani Farm Sanctuary.

Part-time Maui resident Oprah Winfrey takes a step in the right direction. Her embrace of eating one plant-based meal a day may not meet the gold standard of a 100% vegan diet. Nevertheless, as a super-influencer, she may modify the dietary habits of countless individuals — making a significant contribution to environmental sustainability and reduced animal cruelty. According to Winfrey, “What is so extraordinary is that if you live in a space of reverence for the rest of the world, for the people, for the plants, then that is given back to you.  You have this revered life, actually.”
